For the upcoming U.S. presidential elections, ballot papers will now be available in Urdu, alongside English, to support voters who may not be fluent in English. With Election Day set for November 5, early voting has already begun in several states. This new step is aimed at making voting more accessible and helping to protect the voting rights of all citizens, regardless of their language abilities.
The Chicago Board of Elections has confirmed that polling stations in Chicago will offer Urdu ballot papers, along with additional resources in other languages. Voters will also have access to French language options on voting machines and audio ballots to assist with comprehension. Furthermore, any voter who needs extra help will be allowed to bring an interpreter with them to the polling place.
This effort aligns with U.S. laws that aim to ensure everyone has the opportunity to vote, regardless of their primary language.
By offering ballots and support in multiple languages, election officials hope to make the voting process as inclusive and straightforward as possible for everyone. This change reflects a growing recognition of the diversity in American communities and aims to empower more citizens to fully participate in the democratic process.
