Karachi’s Port Qasim Makes History with Arrival of its Biggest Cargo Ship, A Massive 355-Meter Vessel

The port authorities have announced that once the cargo unloading is complete, the cargo vessel will depart for India.

In December 2019, the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) welcomed the largest container ship ever to visit Pakistan. This massive container vessel, named the ‘Cosco Belgium,’ docked at Karachi Port’s South Wharf area.

The ‘Cosco Belgium’ set a new record with impressive specs, including a length of 366 meters, a high gross registered tonnage of 153,666 metric tonnes, and a maximum width of 51.20 meters.

This Hong Kong-flagged ship arrived at SAPT-3 berths at 8:10 pm local time under the supervision of Deputy Conservator KPT, Captain Asif Ahmed Saeed Tauni, with strict safety measures in place.

Before this, Karachi Port had handled ships with a length of 354.24 meters, a gross registered tonnage of 128,929 metric tonnes, and a width of 45.6 meters.
