Japan Newspaper Have Seeds in them so they can Grow into Plants After Use

A renowned Japanese newspaper, The Mainichi Shimbunsha, has introduced an innovative and environmentally friendly publication called the “Green Newspaper.” This unique newspaper is made from recycled and vegetable paper, but what sets it apart is its sustainability feature. After reading the newspaper, you can plant it in the ground.

The concept behind this eco-friendly newspaper involves using a mix of recycled paper, water, and small flower or herb seeds, a technology available for some time. Instead of throwing the newspaper away when you’re done, you can tear it into small pieces, plant it, and water it. In just a few weeks, you’ll see the paper transform into plants and flowers.

This green newspaper initiative was developed in collaboration with Dentsu Inc, a major Japanese advertising agency, in partnership with “The Mainichi.” “The Mainichi” has a history of environmental commitment, previously supporting water donations for communities in need through advertising campaigns.

The Green Newspaper has been a remarkable success, with a daily circulation of over four million copies across Japan and generating revenues of approximately eighty million yen, equivalent to over $700,000. Additionally, this initiative involves schools, educating children about environmental issues, and emphasizing the importance of recycling, particularly in reducing CO2 emissions linked to traditional waste disposal methods.
