Sindh Govt to Introduce Pink Taxis for Women

The Sindh government in Pakistan is planning to introduce a “Pink Taxi Service” featuring electric cars to cater to the transportation needs of female citizens. The announcement was made by Minister for Information Sharjeel Inam Memon during a meeting in Karachi.

Initially, 200 electric taxis will be launched in Karachi, with fifty of them being exclusively for women and driven by female drivers. The recruitment of female drivers and the establishment of charging and parking depots are still pending. The introduction of this service aims to provide affordable transportation options, create job opportunities, and promote eco-friendly practices by saving oil consumption.

Additionally, the Sindh government plans to add 500 new buses to the Peoples Bus Service in the next fiscal year. They have also instructed the relevant authorities to initiate a new bus route from Hattri to Khesana Mori in Hyderabad, which will benefit people living in rural areas. The government intends to bring all buses currently in the backup onto Karachi’s roads, and they expect to receive 20 new buses by June 15.
